3.3.4 Discounts Applied to Historical Data on Data Boutique
Discounts Applied to Historical Data on Data Boutique
Data Boutique offers historical data discounts to provide buyers with affordable access to complete historical datasets. Historical data allows buyers to view an entire history of past snapshots for a dataset, which is especially valuable for analyzing trends and changes over time.
Eligibility for Historical Data
Historical data is available only for contracts with a declared refresh policy of daily, weekly, or monthly updates. Static and on-demand contracts do not support historical data, as they lack a regular snapshot schedule. For eligible contracts, buyers can purchase the full historical record at varying levels of detail, depending on snapshot frequency.
Historical Data Granularity
Buyers can choose from different granularity options for historical data (where available), including:
- Monthly Snapshots: One snapshot per month, capturing the dataset as of the last extraction date each month.
- Weekly Snapshots: One snapshot per week, reflecting data from the last extraction date of each week.
- Daily Snapshots: All available daily snapshots, offering the most detailed view of the dataset’s history.
Currently, buyers purchase the entire historical dataset for the selected granularity level, without the option to select individual past dates.
Discounting Structure for Historical Data
To make extensive historical data collections more accessible, Data Boutique applies a logarithmic discount based on the length of the dataset’s history. This discounting approach means that as the number of available snapshots grows, the overall price increases at a slower rate, effectively lowering the per-snapshot cost.
This gradual price increase makes longer historical records more economical, incentivizing buyers to purchase the complete history. As a result, buyers benefit from cost savings on larger historical collections, while sellers can offer valuable data over extended time periods at a fair price.
In Summary
- Historical Data Eligibility: Available for daily, weekly, or monthly refresh contracts.
- Granularity Options: Monthly, weekly, or daily snapshots, with only the entire history available for purchase.
- Logarithmic Discount: A decreasing rate of price increase as the history length grows, lowering the effective cost per snapshot for larger historical datasets.
These historical data discounts allow buyers to gain comprehensive insights into past data trends, making long-term datasets more affordable while supporting sellers in maximizing the value of their data over time.
